Product Description

The Mikoyan-Gurevich MiG-21 (NATO reporting name "Fishbed") is a supersonic jet fighter aircraft, designed and built by the Mikoyan-Gurevich Design Bureau in the Soviet Union. Some 50 countries over four continents have flown the MiG-21, and it still serves many nations a half-century after its maiden flight. The plane has the distinction of holding a number of aviation records, including:
1) The most produced jet aircraft in aviation history
2) The most produced combat aircraft since WWII
3) The longest production run of a combat aircraft.

Its Mach 2 capability exceeds the top speed of many later modern fighter types. Estimates are that more than 10,000 MiG-21s were built. Today it is one of the greatest fighters in the world.

The MIG 21 has been flown in combat in Vietnam, the Middle East, both against Israel and in the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan, and also in the war between Egypt and Libya. It has also seen action in various African countries, mainly in Angola against South African forces, and in Somalia. India also used the MIG 21 in the war against Pakistan. In Europe the MIG 21 was also used in Yugoslavia by both the Serb and Croatian forces, and Romania maintains a fleet of 110 updated Lancer MIG 21`s. China also uses the MIG 21 under the name Chengdu J-7.
