Product Description
The Typhoon was originally envisioned as a high altitude fighter replacement for the Hurricane and Spitfire but was beset by problems from its inception and in its intended role, failed miserably.
High altitude speed and manouverability above 18000ft was not as specified although at low altitude it excelled at both and eventually found its role as an effective ground attack aircraft.
Cancellation of the the Typhoon always hung on its shoulder though, as its numerous faults including: sudden engine failures, structural failure of the tail section, carbon monoxide leaking into the cockpit from both exhausts and bulkhead and the threat of catching fire when starting to name a few resulted in the ever present threat of cancellation.
Pilots who managed to come to grips with it though were impressed even to the point of favoring it over the Spitfire, and was the only aircraft at the time that could get to grips with the FW190 and fast enough to intercept the V1 flying bombs.
It`s shortcomings were eventually overcome and resulted in its successor the Tempest and although the Typhoon continued to be produced, production ceased at wars end.
