Product Description
The PRC-25 Back-Pack portable radio was a mainstay of military communications during the Vietnam Conflict, replacing the earlier PRC-10 in service by 1965.It boasted a range of between 5 and 8 "clicks" (kilometres), depending on which antenna was fitted. Most commonly a 4 foot flat "tape" antenna was fitted and gave an effective range of 5-6 km, but the heavy terrain and dense foliage in Vietnam reduced this range severely at times. Longer antennas, and the use of high ground terrain could double this range and at times broadcasts could reach 15 or 20 miles on a good day with the right conditions. Later models of the PRC-25 and its successors could be fitted with extension sets for cryptography and scrambled "secure" transmissions, and most variants could be fitted with auxiliary items such as external speakers.
The RTO (Radio Telephone Operator) in an infantry unit would be assigned to carry the radio pack, batteries, and accessories, which weighed between 20 and 26 pounds, along with his other combat equipment. It was the RTO that typically assisted with navigation, as well as providing a communications link between his unit and neighbouring forces to co-ordinate attacks and call for support from other allied units.
The PRC-25 would serve through-out the Vietnam War, and would remain in service for over 30 years, seeing numerous improved "upgrades" through its service lifetime. It has been mostly replaced in front-line use by more modern systems, but can still be found in service in training battalions, and with Reserve and National Guards units.
Included in this set are; the PRC-25 Radio Pack with pose-able handset and strap adjustment morphs, Pose Presets for the Handset, and some basic Action Poses to use in your scene renders. The Radio Pack also includes detailed textures and bump maps. This set is designed to be compatible with Panko`s Vietnam GI Gear and equipment, and his smart-parenting prop sets.
